Hi all! First of all a big thanks for checking out my new portfolio site. This is my first ever blog post so i hope you enjoy it, and please let me know what you'd like me to talk about next.

Who am I?

Let's start with the basics. My name is Ruben Winant, i'm a 25-years-old developer from Bierbeek, Belgium. I currently work as a full-stack developer on a Magento e-commerce site. In my free time i like to game, boulder, code or watch a series.

What have I made here?

As most developers I've made myself a portfolio site to showcase my projects, talk about stuff and just play around with. This is something I've been doing since i started out professionally, which is about 3 years now. And in that time there have been a lot of iterations of this site, give or take 5.

Why so many you might ask?

Well I was never really happy with how they turned out. The first few were fully static, no CMS, no nothing. I found this to be very annoying cause i had to go through the code and update the content that way.

Then i started playing with some different CMS options but i found them to be a bit clunky. In that time i also played around with some new frameworks and just made a new portfolio as proof of content to play with them.

In the end i noticed that Next.js had a template project with Contentful which i was already used to working with so i booted it up, got it working and here we are.

What about the blog?

I really like the thought of having a special place where i can just write down what I'm thinking about at the time. So i added it to my site as well.

How frequent I will be posting on here or what it will be about. I don't know yet. English is also my second language so forgive any mistakes on here.

What's next for this site?

It's not finished fully yet, see it as a MVP. I really want to first polish what i have here and then continue adding and refining features.

Some of the features i want to add in the coming months:

  • Richer contact page

  • SEO optimization

  • Start social media accounts

  • Add a guest book

  • Add comments to blog

Conclusion

So, there you have it – my first dive into the world of blogging. I hope you enjoyed this little sneak peek into my journey so far. Your feedback means the world to me, so don't be shy – message me on any of my socials and let's start a conversation.

Stay awesome, and I look forward to sharing more with you soon!
